In 1957, nine African-American teenagers desegregated all-white Central High School, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Aided by Daisy Bates, an NAACP leader, they courageously embraced the responsibility to fulfill their right to an equal education. Although Governor Faubus denied the Nine their civil rights, President Eisenhower was ultimately responsible for ensuring their success.
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
